People behind Likaholix

Likaholix was founded by Bindu Reddy and Arvind Sundararajan. Bindu and Arvind previously worked at Google where they were some of the key people behind GMail, Google Base, Google Docs, AdSense and Google Video.

Bindu Reddy
Before starting Likaholix, Bindu was a Group Product Manager at Google. She oversaw product management for several products including Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Video and Blogger. When she first started at Google, Bindu was a product manager for AdWords where she improved the AdWords bidding model by introducing Quality Based Bidding and Quality Score for keywords. She was also in-charge of Google's shopping engine - Google Product Search and designed and launched Google Base. Before Google, Bindu founded AiYo - a shopping recommendations service. Earlier in her career, Bindu was the Director of Product Management at eLance and a Computational Biologist at Exelixis. Bindu has a MS from Dartmouth College and a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai.

Arvind Sundararajan
Before starting Likaholix, Arvind was a Senior Staff Engineer at Google. Over the span of more than four years there, Arvind worked on Gmail (as technical lead for the backend team), led structured search efforts for Google Base, and Ad Sense (where he led the team responsible for the serving software and infrastructure). Arvind won two Google founders awards for his work on Gmail and AdSense. Previously, Arvind was an engineering manager at BEA, first employee at Alpiri (a small semantic web startup) and an early engineer at Marimba, which was acquired by BMC software. Arvind has a MS in Computer Science from Stanford University and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai.

Not sure of what will become of their effort but it certainly looks they have quite amount of skills at least based of these lists…

Portable cell phone booth

This might not be something you would usually use when making calls to friends but might come handy if content of phone call is more sensitive. Anyway, if you are left to wonder what this all is about, I might explain little bit of this whole thing.

"The Portable Cellphone Booth" is project of Nick Rodrigues, Sculptor from 2002. You can see video about whole thing at http://www.cowboygirlproductions.com/cellphone.html or read some more about it from web: http://www.nickrodrigues.com/art/phoneBooth.html + http://wirelesswatch.jp/2005/01/04/portable-cell-phone-booth/ etc.

Writing might help brain cope with emotional overload

Asked why writers were often troubled souls, he said that the writing itself may be a reaction to severe emotional problems.

"I am sure that it is one of their motivators to write," he said. "You have to ask yourself what they would be like without the writing."

Interesting article. You can find more information and conversation (including link to research paper) from FriendFeed.

What is portrait?

The very notion of the portrait, be it a painting or a photograph, promises the viewer a glimpse to someone´s persona, maybe soul even. A succesful portrait is often considered to be able to compress something essential about it´s subject into a single image. It is not a surprise that photography has been believed to be able to steal the soul.

This is part of text written by Hannu Karjalainen, one of photographers in the Helsinki School.

Science, mathematics and reflections of reality

Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality.
